Or you know that you’re capable, but you want to feel confident on the water.

Maybe you’re tired of your arms feeling exhausted and your back hurting after a little jaunt on the lake

Or you want to adventure more onto the rivers of Alberta

Our courses follow the Paddle Canada SUP Skills curriculum. This ensures you learn everything you need to paddle confidently. Once the Advanced Flat Water Skills is completed, you can move forward to further training such as River, Surf and Touring.

COURSE DETAILS

BASIC SUP SKILLS

You’re green to paddling or have had a paddleboard and used it a handful of times, and are ready to gain some intro skills.

2-3 hours - $85/person

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Safety Skills like: how to fall off safely, remounting the board, using a leash

  • How to read weather for safe paddling conditions

  • Choosing and holding a paddle

  • Prone paddling

  • Kneeling & Standing Paddling

  • How to paddle in a straight line

  • Forward Stroke

  • Braking Stroke

  • Sweeping Strokes

  • Paddling in windy or turbulent conditions

  • Knowledge about SUP boards, care, equipment, clothing and transporting a board

ADVANCED FLAT WATER SKILLS

You’ve taken the Basic Skills course, and want to learn more techniques to further your exploration and efficiency.

4-6 hours — $145/person

You’ll learn everything covered in the Basic SUP Skills course as well as:

  • Towing

  • Launching into waves

  • Paddling in waves

  • Foot positions

  • Pivot turns

  • Efficient forward stroke (speed up your paddling!)

  • Draw Strokes

  • Cross Draw

  • Bracing

  • Edging

  • Paddling in wind

  • Knowledge about Environment, Heritage, advanced board design, risk assessment and management

What to Bring:

Paddle Boards, Paddles, PFD’s, Leashes and safety equipment available for rent if you do not have your own.

  • Paddle specific clothing (wet/dry suit; moisture wicking top and bottom)

  • Shoes you can get wet (non slip sole is ideal)

  • Hat, sunglasses (with a strap), waterproof sunscreen

  • Lunch or snacks

  • Water bottle

  • Dry Clothes, Towel
